Widgeto — Glance Widget System
“Elevating Android home screen widgets with Jetpack Glance, responsive layout resizing, and modern Haze glassmorphism rendering.”
Overcoming App Widget Layout and Resizing Limitations
Android widgets have historically been built on RemoteViews, limiting interactive animations. Jetpack Glance brings Compose to home screen widgets, but introduces severe memory overhead and scaling problems on newer launchers. The challenge was to craft search toolbars and media control widgets styled with premium glassmorphism blurs without crashing the launcher process.
Phase 1: Concept Layouts
Sketched structured search bar mockups, quick launch shortcuts, and media controls mirroring modern iOS widgets.
Phase 2: Glance Integration
Ported layouts to Jetpack Glance widgets (GlanceAppWidget) and receiver endpoints.
Phase 3: Glassmorphism Blur
Configured Chris Banes' Haze library inside the WidgetTheme context to draw blurry backdrops underneath text nodes.
Phase 4: Resizing Optimization
Restricted widgets to explicit Glance size modes and preview bounds to prevent scaling crashes on Android 15.

Glance Layout Architecture
Engineered responsive search widgets and toolbars using Glance, overcoming the constraints of traditional layouts by binding compose-style nodes directly to widget provider receiver hosts.
Premium Haze Glassmorphism
Implemented real-time glassmorphism blurs inside Android widgets. Using the Haze rendering state, we draw transparent, highly aesthetic backdrop elements that adapt to user wallpaper changes.
